I love the Summer and Fall when I can stop using my dryer and hang clothing out on my clothesline! My wallet loves this time too because my electric bill is able to come down a little!
I love the smell of fresh laundry off the clothesline but the one MAJOR complaint I have is that sometimes my clothing will become very stiff and so I went out and searched for a way to help keep my clothing nice and soft without having to sacrifice and throw them in the dryer!
I found a super simple recipe for fabric softener that will keep your clothing softer when using a clothesline but it also can make them smell GREAT by using Essential Oils! This recipe is great for people who have sensitive skin (like my daughter) because there is NO harsh chemicals of any kind! There is actually only 2 ingredients in this fabric softener and so it is super simple to make also!
Here’s how to make it:
- In an old jar of some sort ( I use an old glass Spaghetti Sauce jar) fill with 2 cups of Epsom Salt.
- Add in 10-15 drops of Essential Oil of your choice. I alternate between Lemon, Peppermint, and Spearmint depending on the day.
- With a spoon mix the salt and essential oil until it is blended well.
- When doing your laundry simply add 1-2 tbsp of salt to the load.
It’s really just that simple and you will have clothing that smells great and not nearly as “stiff” as it can get sometimes!
