Got Rust Stains on your Clothing? Try Lemon Juice as an All Natural Cleaner!

It’s been a crazy couple of days here at our house preparing for Spring with planting seeds and trying to get our garden ready now that there is no snow on the ground!  So its been a couple days since I’ve been able to post, but I really wanted to share this all natural way to remove rust stains with you all! How is everyone’s Spring preparations going at home??

Ok… Back to the Lemon Juice 🙂  My family now has a water softener in our home to help combat the rust but before we had the money to put that in it was an everyday struggle with rust on our clothing! 🙁  White clothes were simply out of the question and even colored clothes would come out ruined when we ran them through the washing machine.  I had tried a ton of cleaning products from the store to remove these stains and never found one that I really liked.  After reading labels on these products that stated things like harmful to come in contact in with your body I began to wonder if I cannot touch it when cleaning the stain how in the world is it “safe” to wear the clothing after using it?? I decided it was time to find an all natural solution to this problem.  And I did:  Lemon Juice!!

How to remove rust stains from clothing

To get rid of the rust stains:

1. Put equal parts of Lemon Juice and water and place in a Squirt bottle.

2. Spray on the stained area of the clothing

3. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes

4. Hand wash the item in the sink.

*For harder rust stains (for example you touch a rusty tool with your white shirt)  pour a small amount of full strength lemon juice on the spot as soon as possible after coming in contact with the rust.  Let soak on for 5-10 minutes and then go ahead and wash as usual.*

  1. I’ve never tried that! Thanks for sharing!

  2. What a good recipe for cleaning stains from clothes! For cleaning blood stains from white clothes I use bleach. Just a drop or two and I leave it for 5 minutes, then put it in the washing machine and the stain disappear! I have tried it and it worked! Thank you for sharing information with us!
